Candidate's Statement

Growing up, John attended Clay County Schools, graduating from Clay High School and earning a baseball scholarship to play at Flagler College. He was drafted out of college by the Los Angeles Dodgers and spent two years playing in the Minor League System.

Following his professional baseball career, John accepted a teaching and coaching position in Clay County and was promoted by the School Superintendent to be the Coordinator of District Athletics and Development for Clay County Schools. He spent three years in the position serving 6,000 student-athletes and supervising the school district's 300 Coaches each year.

Today, he serves as the Athletic Director for St Johns Country Day School in Orange Park where he has numerous responsibilities including hiring coaches and overseeing their interaction with student athletes. He's additionally responsible for producing department budgets and keeping the school within that budget.

John resides with his wife Callie and his 2-year-old son Charlie in Fleming Island where they attend River Christian Church. He serves as a member of the Clay County Republican Executive Committee and is part of the Republican Men’s Club. He also volunteers with Special Olympics and the American Cancer Society.

John has a Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Flagler College in St. Augustine and a Masters Degree in Education from the University of Missouri. He also serves on the Board of Directors for the FIAAA (Florida Interscholastic Athletic Administrators Assocaiation).

John is a proud fiscal conservative who will work hard every day to ensure that your tax dollars are protected. It's his belief that there are many people who often forget that those dollars belong to the taxpayers; not the government or bureaucrats.

He's a supporter of fully funding public safety, and making sure our agencies have the tools they need to be able to continue to protect our residents. John is a forward thinker and will ensure that he is a consistent advocate of smart planning and growth management in Clay County.

Finally, John is committed to working hard on behalf of our military veterans. As the grandson of a Navy Veteran and son of a Marine Corps Veteran, John takes extreme pride in supporting the over 30,000 veterans plus active military that call Clay County home and he looks forward to being a strong advocate on the Commission that speaks for our heroes.
