Candidate's Statement

Superintendent of Schools I am a current high school teacher; 25 year U.S. Air Force Officer and former business owner and have announced my candidacy for Pasco County’s Superintendent of Schools. I am a Trinity area resident and have resided in the Tampa area since 1992 and Pasco County since 1999. I hold a Bachelor’s Degree from Bellevue University in Political Science and a Master of Education in Educational Leadership from St. Leo University. I currently teach Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, coach the school’s girls’ tennis team, and sponsor the Young Democrats Club at Gulf High School in New Port Richey. I have previously taught at Hillsborough Community College (HCC) for an electrical apprenticeship program. I am married with three children and two grandchildren. My campaign will require a great deal of grassroots support and our team realizes we have an uphill battle to fight. However, we’re not afraid of being the underdog and feel that the people of Pasco County are ready for change. Community outreach will be a core philosophy for my administration. I have a realistic understanding of what students, teachers, and parents seek from our school system. As a parent of two Pasco County High School graduates (Mitchell and Gulf High Schools), I understand that parents require and deserve sound educational decisions and want their tax dollars used in the most efficient way. Our children need a safe, positive learning environment, and our teachers must have the necessary tools to do their jobs—teach! In order for our schools to excel and be competitive, we must attract and retain a highly qualified and motivated corps of professionals at all levels. The diversity of our county requires an in-depth understanding of what really matters to our community. As a parent, teacher, and community member, I have a solid understanding of what Pasco County schools require. I will seek mutual respect and cooperation with our community, our teachers and our School Board. I believe this to be vital to the advancement, betterment, and overall success of our school district. I will lead with vision, open mindedness, cooperation and service. I will put into action a county wide initiative to place relevant and up to date technology in our schools, whereby all schools, students, teachers, and support personnel, have access to the same state-of-the-art technology. I will work very closely with the Sheriff’s Department, the School Resource Officers (SRO’s), and local businesses to develop and implement security systems and procedures in all Pasco County Schools. All are accountable to our children; therefore, I also plan to implement a Pasco County School’s hotline in order to prevent fraud, waste, and abuse within our schools. I believe in Truth, Trust, and Transparency in office to ensure excellence in our schools. Thank you for taking the time to read about my vision for our schools.
