Candidate's Statement

FAMILY I have been married to the Reverend Kenneth Mills Sr. for 30 years. He is a native of SLC. He is the 11th child of 12 children. He and all of his siblings attended SLC schools. He graduated from Fort Pierce Central in 1972. He played on the only football team which won state championship in the history of SLC. He currently volunteers, as a coach, with the i9 Sports flag football league in South County. We have four children. All of our children grew up in the county and are products of SLC schools. We are proud grandparents of one grandchild. He is 5 years old and was educated by Dr. Mills at her pre-school, The Bible Way Academy. In the fall, he will start kindergarten in the SLC public school system at Westgate Elementary. Our youngest child is a 6th grader who also attends a SLC public school. At age 10, he has maintained a 4.0 grade point average. He was recently accepted into the Marine Oceanography Academy (MOA) program which is offer only to the county\'s highest achieving students. Our middle son attended Centennial High school and received his high school equivalency at IRSC. Our oldest son graduated from Lincoln Park Academy with one year of college through the dual enrollment program. A year later he obtained his Associate of Arts degree from IRSC. Our eldest child graduated from Westwood High and IRSC at the same time through the Dual Enrollment program. She continued her education at Howard University, in Washington DC, on a full scholarship and graduated with two Bachelor of Arts degrees; Political Science and Philosophy. She attended her graduate studies at Yale Law University in Connecticut and graduated Magnum Cum Laud. She obtained a degree in law. She has since returned home, currently resides in SLC, is an attorney, and practices law. OCCUPATIONAL WORK HISTORY 1986-1987,SLC school transportation Substitute Bus driver. 1998-1999, Substitute teacher for SLC schools. 1986-current, co founds the Bible Way Soul Saving Station, a non-denominational church which focuses on children and youth. 1989-current, co-founds the Save Our Children Center, an after school, tutorial, social, cultural and recreational program for children ages 5-17. The Center is open five days a week, from 3pm-7pm, and during the summer months from 10am to 4pm, this place has become a safe haven for many children in SLC. 1998-1999 Worked for SLC Health Dept. as a Tobacco Prevention Specialist and helped to implement the Tobacco Prevention Program into SLC schools. 1999-2004, opens the Mills Academic Learning Center, a preschool / childcare center for children, ages 2-5. This preschool focused on preparing children for academic success. 2000-2004, opens up an inner city school for grades K-8th. Although both pre-school and school were successful, after the hurricanes of 04, both schools were closed. 2009-current, reopens a preschool/childcare center for ages 2-5, the Bible Way Academy. The school offers a new, innovative and exceptional curriculum to preschoolers for academic success. The curriculum includes: Advance Phonics, Math Concepts, Computer Skills, A-Z Bible Scriptures, Spanish, Sign Language, African American Inventors, Positive Affirmations, Poetry, Music, Art, and Character Building Skills. VOLUNTEER CIVIC INVOLMENT 1990-current, Dr. Mills starts the Bible Way Ministry in the country of Haiti, the poorest country in the Western hemisphere. Today, the Bible Way Ministry has successfully established two Churches, two schools, and a mission compound. 2009-current, Serves as a Board of Director and a chapter leader for the Treasure Coast Parents of Murder Children, Inc., a National organization with Chapters all over the Country. 2009-current, volunteers at the SLC jail as an Assistant Chaplain. 2009-current, serves on the Advisory Board at C. A. Moore. She doesn’t just talk a good talk, her 26 years of work speaks for itself! The opportunity has come for you to vote for a person who walks the talk!
