Candidate's Statement

Experienced attorney and former Treasure Coast prosecutor George Dugan announces his candidacy for County Court Judge in Nineteenth Circuit Attorney George Dugan, a former Treasure Coast prosecutor and current private law practitioner, is a candidate for County Court Judge in the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit. \"Having prosecuted and defended hundreds of cases here since 1978, I believe I am uniquely qualified to serve as a County Court Judge,\" said Dugan, an attorney in private practice. \"I joined the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit State Attorney\'s Office as my first job after graduating from law school in 1977, where I prosecuted one of the largest drug trafficking cases in the early 1980s.\" Dugan has been practicing law in the private sector for the past 16 years. He received an Associate of Arts degree in 1969 from what is now called Indian River State College, where he set three swimming team records. He graduated from the University of West Florida, Pensacola in 1971. He graduated as a member of the first Law School class of Nova University in 1977. Prior to joining the State Attorney\'s Office, he served as a parole officer in Jacksonville for two and a half years. George Dugan is a member of the Florida Bar Association. He’s admitted to practice in the United States 5th Circuit Court of Appeals, United States Southern District, and Florida Supreme Court. \"I have had the opportunity to be involved in some civil and criminal cases of all kinds from misdemeanors to the death penalty, as prosecutor and defense attorney in criminal cases as well as in some civil cases,\" Dugan said. \"I am looking forward to putting my experience to work for the people of the Nineteenth Judicial Circuit as a County Court Judge.\" In addition Dugan has served on the Zoning Board of Adjustments of St. Lucie Village for sixteen years. He serves as chairman of the Board as well as being a regular board member deciding cases concerning zoning exceptions.
