Candidate's Statement

I am Kimberle B. Weeks, your current Flagler County Supervisor of Elections. You elected me in 2008 to serve you, the voters of Flagler County. I have proudly and honorably served you, and look forward to continuing to work for you. I was born in Michigan. I have lived in Flagler County approximately 34 of the 37 years I lived in Florida. I have been married nearly 32 years to Flagler County native, Duane Weeks Sr. We have five children and six grandchildren. Our family roots have been here in Flagler County since 1913. <> I am a Florida Notary <> A life member of the Disabled American Veterans Auxiliary <> Member of the First Baptist Church of Bunnell As your current Supervisor of Elections I have: • Ranked by the Governor in April 2012 as one of 13 top Supervisor’s in the state • I am one of eight Supervisor’s in the state who has successfully completed all the Level I and Level II FCEP (Florida Certified Election Professional) courses • Conducted nearly a dozen flawless elections since taking office in 2009 and was also one of the first counties to report election results to the state, and pay poll workers election day for their services. • Since taking office, brought CDD (Community Development District) elections into compliance with Florida Election Laws by moving their elections from odd numbered years to even numbered years, funding these elections with county funds instead of funds from the City of Palm Coast, and properly having the County Canvassing Board canvass these elections • Since taking office, brought the city of Palm Coast municipal elections into compliance with their Charter by not opening absentee ballots prior to 7 p.m. election night • Since taking office, discontinued the practice of charging the city of Palm Coast for staff’s regular hours worked to pad the operating budget when conducting their municipal election(s) saving the city thousands of dollars • Provided hands-on training to poll workers using electronic voting equipment • Returned funds to the Board of County Commissioners each fiscal year from my approved budget. In three years nearly $100k has been returned to the board from my operating fund, while still maintaining the lowest operating budget of any comparable county i.e.: Sumter, Putnam, Nassau, and Highlands counties • Held staff salaries at or below the budgeted rate my predecessor set in 2008/2009 ($172,715 for 5 full time staff members). • Was successful in aiding the Agency for Workforce in recovering nearly $4k of unemployment monies in Leon County courts that were paid in error to a former employee, and current candidate. • Donated 48 obsolete cell phones provided at no cost by Verizon to “cell phones to Soldiers” program • Provide a quality quarterly electronic Newsletter—Sign up today at www.FlaglerElections.com by entering your email address • Implemented the MOVE (Military and Overseas Voters Empowerment Act) Act on the website allowing those voters who vote by mail the ability to track their absentee ballot • Updated all mapping; requiring voters who were registered at business address to update their voter registration information using the address of the place in which they live (voters are required to vote in the precinct in which they live); or their records was noted that an address update was required before they could vote to ensure they were voting at the proper precinct • Conducted Young Reader’s elections throughout many of our public schools; allowing youngsters who participated to earn a free ice cream from McDonalds • Worked closely with our Superintendent of Schools and the school board technical staff to upgrade the office server at a cost savings • Developed a professional working relationship with school board staff, to assist with needs within the many schools used for voting locations, to ensure quality elections • Worked with our high schools to allow students to take part in designing the annual Voter Guide Cover Contest the past two years • Conducted Young Readers, Homecoming, Class, 2012 Presidential Preference Primary mock elections in our local schools • Spoke at schools throughout the county providing valuable election information to staff, and held voter registration drives in the schools • Participated in the Flagler County Home Show and Bunnell Beef and Potato contest the past three years • Took immediate action to remove convicted felons from the voter rolls • Had/have an open door policy to you; those whom myself and my staff serve • Treated all citizens with dignity and respect regardless of party affiliation, religion, sex, race, ethnicity, age, and/or national origin. I, Kimberle B.Weeks, a leader with proven experience and dedication ask for, and would appreciate your support in my endeavor to continue to serve as your Flagler County Supervisor of Elections.
