Tracy Scott Drake was first elected to the position of Clay County Property Appraiser on November 3, 2020, and commissioned by Ron DeSantis, Governor of Florida, on January 5, 2021.
Tracy is the son of Bonnie and Doug Drake (both former employees of the Clay County School system) and is married to Kendra, with whom he shares two sons, Logan and Gavin. He is a proud native of Clay County and graduate of Clay High School. Tracy subsequently received his Associate in Arts degree from Florida State College at Jacksonville and graduated (with honors) from the University of Central Florida with a Bachelor of Science degree in Interdisciplinary Studies: Commerce, Public Affairs, and Political Science.
Starting his mass appraisal career in 1993, Tracy held many positions in the Office of the Clay County Property Appraiser, including Real Property Appraiser, Supervisor of Commercial Appraisal Services, Director of Appraisal Services, and Assistant Property Appraiser.
Florida’s property tax system has become increasingly complex and confusing to taxpayers. Elected county property appraisers are charged with the with responsibility of implementing and administering legislative changes while producing ad valorem assessment rolls in accordance with Florida law. Therefore, the effective administration of the Property Appraiser’s Office requires specialized education, training and management.
As a fiscal conservative, Tracy will ensure the taxpayers’ dollars are used wisely, with full accountability and transparency. He will utilize his extensive experience and credentials to administer the responsibilities of the office in a bipartisan manner while producing fair and equitable assessments, and providing excellent service to all those need it.
Although the office requires a degree of independence, Tracy will continue working with the municipalities, county and state agencies to ensure sustained success as one of the most professional, efficient and respected offices in the state. Experience matters and Tracy is exceptionally qualified to lead one of the county’s most important agencies as Clay County anticipates unprecedented growth and unpredictable real estate markets.
