Dear Clay County Voters,
I am excited to introduce myself and announce my candidacy for Clay County Superintendent of Schools! After the departure of Superintendent Addison Davis, I received overwhelming support from many of you to enter the race. Having previously served as Superintendent for eight years, I am answering the call to lead Clay County Schools again.
I have long held a passion for education. My teaching career runs from Pre-K to Junior High English to master’s-level college courses. I worked with Curriculum and Instruction for several years and hold a Doctorate of Education. Prior to moving to Clay County, my husband Eddie and I were stationed overseas. Eddie served 28 years in the Air Force and we are still active today in the Vietnam Veterans Association. Eddie is a member of the Clay County VFW.
During my tenure as Clay County Superintendent we achieved many milestones. I was able to secure multiple salary increases for our teachers and support employees. I was proud to open the Bannerman Learning Center and launch the district’s first Career and Technical Education academy. We created tutoring programs with community groups like missionary educators from Penney Farms and servicemen from NAS Jacksonville to help our students. Our district moved into the state’s top-10 rankings. President Bush awarded Clay County his Eighth Point of Light Award, and I was honored to be selected Superintendent of the Year for the State of Florida.
Clay County has grown since then, but the challenges we face today remain very much the same. We must continue to do more with less in the face of declining revenue. We must ensure our campuses remain safe and secure for both students and staff. We must continue to provide expanded school choice options to allow parents to customize their children’s education. Most importantly, we must prioritize the classroom and allow teachers to teach.
With the current crisis facing our nation, I know political campaigns are the last thing on your mind. But now, more than ever, our community needs a dedicated, experienced leader with a proven track record. I am asking for your vote to help our campaign succeed. We must continue to build upon the foundational excellence that our public schools provide; it is the reason why many of us moved here. I look forward to hearing from you and hope you will join me.
Sincerely,
Ann
Dr. Ann B. Wiggins
P.S. I appreciate the outpouring of support from business and community leaders across Clay County. I’ve also earned the endorsements of veteran School Board Members Janice Kerekes and Tina Bullock and hope you will join us with your support.
