Candidate's Statement

Hello! My name is Josh Dieguez and I am a proud lifelong resident of Miami Lakes. I grew up playing in our parks and lakes and have seen firsthand how our little town has changed in that time. I’ve also been involved for many years as a member of the Neighborhood Improvement Committee, Elderly Affairs Committee, Miami Lakes Bar Association, Charter Revision Commission and by just being “that guy" who speaks his mind during public workshops and council meetings.

I graduated with a B.A. in Political Science and History from Florida International University with honors and after that with a J.D. from St. Thomas University where I was a member of a competitive honor society and recognized on the Dean’s List. Currently, I am an attorney at my family's law firm, Dieguez & Associates, which has been located in Miami Lakes since 2002.

Over the last four years I have repeatedly voted to maintain the fifth lowest property tax rate out of 30+ cities in Miami-Dade County while keeping infrastructure investments a top priority for the Town. New trees have been planted along our swales and cul-de-sacs to keep our neighborhoods cool (temperature) and attractive and we are at the beginning of the largest investment made to our Stormwater Drainage system since incorporation. New restaurants and bars have since opened as well, which I believe is a product of the Town’s business friendly policies including proposals I made to make obtaining a business tax receipt paperless and making the Town’s resources available to support our small businesses during the COVID Lockdown. Finally, but certainly not the least, I have been a strong proponent of measures to make our community safer including requiring our police department conduct a threat matrix for Town events, adding additional license plate readers, and implementing speed control devices to keep our pedestrians safe.

If afforded the opportunity to continue my public service over the next four years I will continue to prioritize investments in our public safety, infrastructure, beautification and more while voting against tax rate increases and looking for ways to reduce the property tax burden. In 2018 I asked for your vote because I had the knowledge and experience to keep Miami Lakes “Growing Beautifully”. This year, I ask for your vote because I have the record to keep us “Growing Stronger”.

Yours in service,

Josh Dieguez
