Candidate's Statement

I'm running for School Board member, District 2, on August 18th.  I am qualified for this job being a past school board member from 2012 to 2016.  During my term, I was always honest, fair, and put the needs of children first.  I asked questions and spoke up on many issues during my tenure.  When questions weren't answered, I dug deeper to find the root of the problem. I researched and studied each item I voted on and stood up for what was right. I became well informed on school policies and procedures.  If I voted no on certain issues, it was because it wasn't the right decision for the citizens and children of Holmes county.  Doing the right thing is very important to me.  During my previous term as board member, I gave back to the community by giving eight scholarships to Holmes county students.  I became a certified board member, received boardmanship award, attended legislative days in Tallahassee and many Florida School Board Association conferences. Our family has lived in Ponce de leon for 37 years.  I'm a native Floridian, originally from Blountstown.  I accumulated countless hours volunteering in school activities, served as Booster Club president, PTO treasurer, served on many committes (including the School Advisory Committee), concession stand duty, field trip chaperon, field day and have been very active in the schools. I've been a mentor for Take Stock in Children for 8 years, and was responsible for getting this program started back in Holmes county.  I am a volunteer for Guardian Ad Litem, as an advocate for children.  I was a substitute teacher in Holmes county for 29 years.  Our children grew up in Holmes county and attended Ponce de leon school.  Three of our children are teachers.

If you look back on my previous four year term as school board member, you will see I have always been fair.  I've always been accessible if someone wanted to talk to me about school matters. The children and their education have always been my first concern.  I have put my election in God's hands and ask for his will to be done.  Our race will be decided on August 18th.  I can be reached at 850-259-1904 if you'd like to speak to me.  Please pray about this election. I will work hard if I'm elected and will be honest in all circumstances.  Also, please pray for this great nation.  Our country is in turmoil and the times are so uncertain. Be safe and God bless each of you!
