My name is Cynthia "Cindy" Johnson Brown. I am a Christian conservative, wife to a law enforcement officer, mother to a 12 year old daughter Olivia, and a Speech Language Pathologist for over 22 years. I was born and raised in Chipley and a graduate of CHS in 1992. I currently live on 22 acres in Wausau with horses and a daughter who thinks she's a zookeeper, and I attend church in Vernon at Holmes Valley Community Church. Currently, I own my private practice where 99% of my caseload is focused on early intervention working with children age birth to 3. I work closely with state organizations and the public school systems and help transition my patients to Pre K ESE 3 year old classes whe they turn 3 years old. My past experience includes working for Dept of Education for 7 years in a title 1 school as a SLP as well as 3 years contracting out to charter schools. I have been part of pilot programs in Central Florida for the state that involved inclusion of our children with disabilities. I am a huge advocate for children with IEP's and 504 plans. I have been in the public school sector working with elementary, middle, and high school students from a therapist standpoint and inside the classroom with teachers as well helping to adapt the environment and curriculum for our students. I have my B.S in communication disorders, M.S in speech language pathology and was top of my class at graduation when Nova Southeastern University asked me to come to Miami and work for the University where they also paid for my extensive doctoral coursework in Education Leadership with a concentration in Speech Language Pathology and a minor in Autism. I currently sit as a Board of Director for the Chamber of Commerce and the Wausau Community Devleopment Club. I believe in giving back and sevrving others. I am also a Take Stock in Children mentor and have helped students receive 4 year scholarships to college right here in Washington County. Leadership and Community service are important to me. My daughter Olivia has Oct 1st named after her called "Olivia Brown Leadership Day" because I have always instilled chairty and community service in her from a young age. I believe that should be instilled in our kids in Washington County. Goveror DeSantis asked me, "How do we make our students better citizens?" He knew the answer. The question was did I. We make our students better citizens by two things. One, we engage the community more and make sure we have leadership community service programs for all and teach our students what that really means. Second, we make sure Civics is a subject that our students understand well in order to pass High School. If immigrants must pass an immigration test to become a citizen, our students should have a good understanding and respect for our country's history. We should not distort or destroy history. They need to understand the Founding Fathers, Constitution of the United States and Declaraton of Independence.
I have been around speaking to bus drivers, cafteria workers, admins, teachers, parents, and even students. A lcoal focus of mine includes:
I am very much aligned with our Goveror DeSantis and his eduction reform. I believe in education, not indoctrination.
