Candidate's Statement

Commissioner Martin was elected to serve as District One County Commissioner on August 18, 2020 and took office on November 17, 2020.  He currently serves as Chairman of the Board of County Commissioners.

Commissioner Martin is a 21-year Navy Veteran of the Submarine Force, retiring in 2002 as a Senior Chief.  

After retiring from the Navy, Commissioner Martin worked for CSX Transportation as a Logistics Manager for 2 years, taught at Yulee Middle School for 1 year, and then was fortunate enough to be selected by Clerk of Court, John A. Crawford, to serve as Nassau County’s first full-time Veterans Service Officer.  He retired from that position in 2018.  

Commissioner Martin currently serves in a variety of volunteer positions including: 

• Veterans Treatment Court Mentor Coordinator

• Veterans Council of Nassau County

• Northeast Florida Regional Planning Council Board of Directors

• Nassau County Republican Executive Committee

• Nassau County Republican Party State Committeeman

• Florida Association of Counties Board of Directors

 

He is a former member of:  

• Nassau County Code Enforcement Board

• Council on Aging Transportation Disadvantaged Local Coordinating Board 

 

Education: 

• Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from the University of North Florida

o   Double Major in Logistics and Management

• Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of North Florida

  o Concentration in Economics 

Commissioner Martin has earned the following certifications via the Florida Association of Counties Institute for County Government:

·         Certified County Commissioner (CCC)

·         Advanced County Commissioner Level 1 (ACC1)

·         Advanced County Commissioner Level 2 (ACC2)

Commissioner Martin and his wife, Donna, have lived in Fernandina Beach since 1993.  Their daughter, Janel, is Dean of Students at Yulee High School.  They have 4 grandchildren.
