Candidate: Kathy Knight Burns

Dr. Kathy Knight Burns is a mom, educator, three-time Teacher Of The Year, and the current Nassau County Superintendent of Schools.  She has dedicated her career to giving all our children the world-class education they deserve. Kathy has exceeded expectations and has helped lead Nassau County to one of the top school districts in the state!  Nassau is now 4th out of 67, and that’s not all.

• Nassau County is an A Rated School District 

• Top 4 School Districts in the State 

• Increased School Safety measures district-wide 

• 91% Graduation Rate

• Expanded Career and Technical opportunities district-wide – 76% of our high school students enrolled in a career and technical training program 

• Increased salaries for all employees at every level 

• Created “Nassau Strong” Strategic Plan with 5 specific focus areas:

* Established the District’s Land/Growth Committee to prepare for future schools 

* Established the Superintendent’s Student Advisory Council (SSAC) with high school students throughout the district.  This council provides input, ideas, and problem-solving strategies from the student’s perspective.

• Build schools to address Nassau County’s rapid growth 

• Ensure the recruitment and retention of top-quality employees 

• Expand safety, wellness, and mental health services and support district-wide for students and employees
