Candidate: Mary Alford

If you don't know me, I was born and raised in Alachua County and I am a sixth generation Floridian. I am the oldest of nine kids and graduated from PK Yonge, Santa Fe College, and the University of Florida (College of Engineering). I am the mother of four amazing sons, and grandmother to six remarkable children. I have worked as an environmental engineer in the power industry, as a private consultant, and for the past fifteen years I have been a business owner focused on sustainability in the built environment and affordable housing. I have volunteered by serving on the City of Gainesville's Utility Advisory Board, Alachua County's Environmental Protection Advisory Board, and served on non-profit boards for organizations such as Florida Defenders of the Environment, the Cultural Arts Coalition and United Way.  I have a dog, two cats, and a flock of chickens. I love to garden, to cook and preserve food, to create things, to fix and repair things, and to spend time outdoors traveling, kayaking, and camping.  I am a cancer survivor and I lost a son and both my parents to cancer - so health care and a healthy community are important to me. 

I will support our county's roads and infrastructure and fight for the changes we need to make to care for our people and our environment, and to support a sustainable and resilient future.
