Candidate: Ed Book

* Believes in service, civility, and engagement and treating everyone with courtesy, respect, and professionalism.

* Long time Gainesville resident who has served our community for over 36 years.

* A practical, common-sense candidate, described as “moderate & centrist,” important for this City non-partisan election. Known for his ethics and integrity.

* Has served as Chief of Police at Santa Fe College since 2011 and previously retired as a Captain from the Gainesville Police Department after a 26 year career.

* Has dedicated his life to making a difference in his community through charitable efforts with Keep Alachua County Beautiful, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, Rotary, United Way, neighborhoods, parks & recreation, and many others.  

* Ed's whole family embraces service. His wife of over 36 years, Lori, has been a public school elementary education teacher her whole life. His daughter Alexandra is a bartender and son Daniel is a nurse at UF Health.

* University of Florida graduate and Santa Fe College adjunct instructor.

* Currently the Region 17 Director of the Florida Police Chiefs Association coordinating statewide efforts. 

* Has received awards and recognition as part of effective teams and individually throughout his professional career.

* In his free time, enjoys watching movies and sports at home and playing racquetball, pickleball, and basketball.
