Candidate's Statement

Jack Meeks is a small business owner, Certified Public Accountant, and family man. Along with his wife JoAnn, he has been an active member of Jacksonville's Historic Springfield community, working with the Springfield Historical Society to rebuild the Main Street corridor while respecting the historic nature of the area.  Jack's leadership, financial acumen, and emphasis on historic preservation helped revitalize Jacksonville's inner core and surrounding neighborhoods.

Jack has lived in Jacksonville for nearly 50 years.  In 1980 he established what became Jack Meeks & Associates CPAs, LLC.  Jack has continuously distinguished himself as a CPA, earning the advanced credentials of Certified Fraud Examiner (CFE), Accredited Senior Appraiser (ASA), as well as being accredited in Business Valuation (ABV).  Jack’s proven character and credentials resulted in several appointments over the years, including being chairman of the Victim's Assistance Advisory Council, serving on Jacksonville's Ethics Commission, the Jacksonville Economic Development Commission, and vice-chair of the Downtown Investment Authority (DIA).

Jack and JoAnn's latest project was restoring the historic (circa 1909) Elena Flats building in the heart of the downtown Cathedral District.  The building is one of downtown's oldest apartment buildings and was built following the Great Fire of 1901.  Elena Flats was little more than a rotted shell when Jack and JoAnn decided to restore it to its original glory in a multi-year project and bring the building back to life to prevent it from being torn down and its history lost. The apartment building is currently the home to multiple families.

In 2003, Jack moved to Springfield's Historic District, where he and JoAnn renovated their historic home on Hubbard Street. In 2003, they also purchased an old warehouse on Laura Street and renovated it for his CPA firm, breathing new life into the building and the area.  Living in Historic Springfield has made Jack aware that Jacksonville's citizens need safer neighborhoods with economically attractive housing.  Today, Jack is a prominent community leader and believes in the tenets of "civic philanthropy" and along with his wife, JoAnn, they continue to invest in the future of Jacksonville through their hard work and commitment to make Jacksonville the best it can be.
