Candidate: Jason Catalano

Hello, I’m Jason Catalano and I’m running for re-election to the Walton County School Board, District 5. I have lived in Walton County for 19 years. I met my wife Tiffany, who is a Walton County native, in 2003. We have been married for 17 years and we have 4 kids, who range in ages 14 through 5. Next year we will have one in High School, one in Middle School, and two in Elementary School.

A lot has changed since I was first elected in 2014. As part of a highly effective leadership team, comprised of our School Board Members and our Superintendent, I have been instrumental in helping us to overcome some incredible challenges and accomplish some amazing successes. The budget was in severe constraints, our academic rankings were mediocre and there was little plan to deal with the growth we were experiencing.

Today, our budget is the strongest it has ever been. We accomplished this without laying off any employees, without raising taxes, and without sacrificing our standards and expectations. We were ranked 2nd by the Taxpayer Accountability and Transparency Project among small Counties.  

Based on the 2021-2022 FSA Results, Walton County School District is ranked 3rd out of 67 school districts. We are ranked 10 or higher in 20 out of 21 State Assessment Categories. Keep in mind, we earned this in the middle of a global pandemic. That is a testament to the resilience of our students, teachers, support personnel, and community.

Our District continues to be one of the fastest-growing in Florida. We have built some of the most state-of-the-art and safe school facilities, and we have multiple more under construction or design now.

These aren’t just achievements that we look back to and pat ourselves on the back about. These are at the forefront of our daily work. There is no end to this work. We have to do our best to make sure that our students have the best opportunities, the safest schools, and the greatest academic experience that we can provide.

Consistency matters – being consistent with the right things make the difference. I have the proven leadership to continue to bring about positive results for our students and School District.
