Candidate's Statement

Matthew Reinhart is known for his work ethic, his problem-solving abilities, and a commitment to his community.  At the age of 16, while attending Deland High School, Matt started working for McDonalds Restaurant. After graduating high school, he attended Seminole Community College, where his focus was Criminal Justice while continuing his employment at McDonalds. By the age of 19, Matt was the youngest salaried Assistant Manager for Ray Eddy Foods Corp., which at that time owned all the McDonalds Restaurants in Volusia County.

At an early age Matt realized he wanted a career where he could be of service to his community. In 1986, he began his career as a Correctional Officer Trainee with the Volusia County Division of Corrections, which was located at the old Deland Jail. Matt continued that career working his way up to the rank of Warden. Matt’s job responsibilities increased with each promotion. As Warden, at one point he was responsible for both correctional institutions, which employed over 300 personnel and housed over 1400 inmates.  He made policy, prepared and managed a multi-million dollar budget, and reviewed contracts. Matt had to foster good working relationships with many other agencies (e.g., local law enforcement agencies, State Attorney’s office, Clerk of Court, Court Administration, Homeland Security, FBI, etc.).  He also was influential across the state, elected by his peers as President of the Florida County Jail Inspectors group, and selected to attend the Florida Criminal Justice Executive Institute Senior Leadership Program at FDLE headquarters in Tallahassee.  Matt retired from Volusia County in 2017.

After retirement, Matt worked at the F.A.I.T.H. Homeschool Academy, which is a faith-based classroom environment for homeschool children. He shared his passion for American History and American Government with middle and high school aged children, to include a field trip to a local city council meeting to see firsthand how government works.

Matt and his wife Stephanie reside in Daytona Beach. Together they have four grown children, five grandchildren, and two miniature schnauzers that are more spoiled than their children or grandchildren combined. He enjoys watching college sports, attending blues concerts, going to antique shops with his wife and spending time with family and friends.

Matt is an active member of his church in Daytona Beach where he also volunteers for the security team. He is also a Unit director and Board Member for his neighborhood Homeowner’s Association. Matt currently sits on the Daytona Beach Code Enforcement Board and works as a Code Enforcement Officer for the City of New Smyrna Beach.

Matt’s love for government and the desire to serve our community is his motivation to represent District 2. Matt Reinhart will work tirelessly to ensure that he serves all the citizens of Volusia County with integrity and transparency.
