Candidate's Statement

In 1998 my family, living in Delaware at the time, was faced with the decision on where to relocate for Jim's work.  We were given the opportunity to move anywhere east of the Mississippi River.  Jim worked with someone who lives in Flagler Beach. Jim decided to take me for a visit to Florida and that was the beginning of our new life.  Our son Ryan was accepted to FSU in Tallahassee.  He went to college and we moved to Flagler Beach.  I worked in accounting for Brown & Brown in Daytona Beach.  My mother-in-law's health started to decline, with Jim traveling all over the world, I decided to work closer to where we lived.  I become the Facility Manager of Eagles Nest Storage on SR100 in Flagler Beach where I worked for 10 years.  In 2011 I ran for City Commissioner in Flagler Beach.  I was elected and served until March 2020.

I was born and raised in Massachusetts. I attended Fitchburg State College for my under graduate degree.  I achieved my MBA from Western NE College in 1983.  I moved to Maryland in 1985 when I married my husband Jim.  My undergraduate degree is in Medical Laboratory Technology.  I worked for a couple of medical related companies.  We moved to Delaware in 1992.  We lived in a small community called Georegetown about 20 minutes from Rehoboth Beach. That community was a lot like my hometown.  I became involved in my community in Delaware where I was a member of the Soroptimist Club. I also volunteered at the church I attended as well as participated in fund raising for the local hospice. I was an adjunct professor at the local community college where I obtained my Associates Degree in Accounting while teaching medical classes to nurses.

I am involved in the community other than as serving as a City Commissioner.  I am a member and Immediate Past President of the Rotary Club of Palm Coast. I am active in the Parkview Church where I am member.  I served on the Flagler Auditorium Governing Board for over 5 years. I am currently a licensed Realtor.  This past year I joined the Flagler Countywide Opioid Task Force and currently serve as the Treasurer for the Flagler Open Arms Recovery Services. I have my hands and feet in many organizations helping people.  I feel it is what I am meant to do.

It's funny how everyone follows you to Florida.  My brother, my mother, my father and my niece moved to Flagler Beach since Jim and I moved here. There is something very "magical" about our Flagler Beach community. I am blessed to live here and to work here.  If you would like an opportunity to know more about me please contact me.

Elect Kim Carney, Mayor of Flagler Beach
