Candidate: Jill Rena Woolbright

I, Jill Woolbright, have lived in District 1 in Flagler County for over 30 years.  I raised my children here and they are all FPC graducates, college graduates, and gainfully employed.  I attribute their success in large part to the education they received here in Flagler County.

This past November, I retired after teaching for the FCSB for 29 years as an elementary school classroom teacher.  I am certified in Elementary Education 1-6, ESE K-12, and ESOL Endorsed.  The 29 years I taught here, my evaluations were Highly Effective and every year the state DOE ranked High Impact teachers, I made the list for both reading and math.  I taught all student abilities and grade levels, with my last dozen or so years teaching 6th grade specializing in mathematics.  In 2016, Jacob Oliva, Chancellor of Florida Public Schools at the Florida Department of Education who was our superintendent at the time, informed me that my scores in Mathematics that year were #1 out of all 6th grade Math teachers in the state.  I was humbled, but began to believe that I had come to know how to teach our students to have a growth mindset and to work to their full potential.  I persevered in modeling and teaching my students to "work hard and stay humble" always with a grateful heart.

When I retired, I thought my days in public education were completed.  But...  that fire, that passion, that hope for the future of our children still burns deep.  I'm not finished.  Our children need strong advocates.  Our children need rigorous instruction that meets their individual needs.  Our children need to feel safe and secure.  Our school board needs the perspective of 29 years spent in the classroom here in this school district.

My desire, hope, and prayer is to be your next school board member for District 1.  But most of all, I ask we all pray for our school district and elect School Board members that will continue to put our children first and to prepare them for success in the 21st century.
