Candidate's Statement

Dave Sullivan was elected Commissioner on the Flagler County Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) from District 3 on November 8, 2016 and was sworn in that same month. This year Dave serves as the Chairman of the BOCC. After being elected County Commissioner, Dave furthered his knowledge by completing both the “Certified and Advanced County Commissioner” courses sponsored by the Florida Counties Foundation at the University of Florida. He has been a resident of Flagler County since 2000.

Dave Sullivan’s education includes degrees from Boston College and a Master’s Degree in National Security from the Naval Postgraduate School in Monterey, California. Dave retired as a US Navy Captain (06) after completing 28 years of active duty service. His business experience includes 12 years as a Director for Hughes Space and Communications Company supporting space and communications programs including classified satellite systems and development of a civilian program called DIRECTV. After moving to Florida, he volunteered his time to the US Navy League becoming President of the local council and eventually an elected National Director from Florida with special emphasis on Defense legislative support. He has held offices in the Republican Party as President of the Flagler County Republican Club, Chairman of the Flagler Republican Executive Committee and currently Republican State Committeeman for the County.

Once elected to the Flagler County BOCC, Dave has played a significant role in important issues being addressed over the last three and a half years. Some of the major changes in County government include; a nearly complete change in County Staff leadership positions; major programs to ensure that our 18 miles of shoreline beaches are preserved for our future; swearing in our county’s second County Judge; and improving our County and City interlocal relationships.

I am seeking your vote for re-election to continue my efforts to support all the residents, businesses and visitors here in Flagler County. My priorities are safety and security of our citizens; keeping our property taxes low; removing government red tape to attract new businesses and high paying jobs; preserving Flagler’s natural resources and supporting our 13,000 Veterans, our First Responders and their families.

I am very enthusiastic about the future of our County and I ask for your vote to re-elect me as one of your five County Commissioners.
