The right experience matters!  Jonathan Skinner has spent his entire career as an Assistant State Attorney representing this community and the state of Florida. His job has been to ensure that justice is served by prosecuting individuals accused of committing crimes. Jonathan Skinner has tried over 85 Jury trials throughout his career protecting the citizens of Brevard County as a prosecutor.

State Attorney Phil Archer, the State Attorney for the Eighteenth Judicial Circuit encompassing Brevard and Seminole Counties, formally endorses Jonathan Skinner for the position of County Court Judge.

His extensive trial experience along with his various promotions at the State Attorney's Office as a prosecutor make Jonathan Skinner the right choice as County Court Judge.  As a trial attorney, Jonathan has prosecuted thousands of criminal cases ranging from driving under the influence to 1st degree murder. Currently, his position as Career Criminal and Firearm’s Unit has him focused on violent repeat offenders and criminals who use firearms against victims throughout Brevard County.

Jonathan Skinner has strong ties to the community he serves.  Jonathan was born at Cape Canaveral Hospital and raised in Merritt Island, FL. He is a product of the Brevard County Public School system, graduating from the same high school as his parents: Merritt Island High School in 2002. Go Mustangs!

He completed his associates degree at Eastern Florida State University (known then as Brevard Community College) and obtained his undergrad degree at the University of Central Florida.  Go Knights!  While attending UCF, he participated in Get Carded, a non-profit that promotes the importance of organ and tissue donation, and Junior Achievement, which aims to inspire and prepare young people to succeed in a global economy. After college, Jonathan interned for the Honorable Judge Benjamin Garagozlo in Brevard County, FL, which sparked his interest in public service.

Wanting to stay close to his community and home, Jonathan attended Barry University, Dwayne O. Andreas School of Law in Orlando.  In law school, Jonathan participated in Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program (VITA), that helps low income, persons with disabilities, and limited English speaking taxpayers by assisting them in preparing their tax forms.  He also served as treasurer of the Asian-Pacific Law Students Association. Jonathan’s final year at law school culminated in the completion of his Honors Litigation Certificate from the School. In addition, he participated as a Certified Legal Intern (CLI) at his future employer: the Office of the State Attorney for the 18th Judicial Circuit in Brevard County where he participated in three jury trials before graduating law school.

Outside of the courtroom, Jonathan has been an active volunteer in our community. He is currently on the board of directors for Serene Harbor, a local domestic violence shelter. He also has volunteers his time with Teen Court, a juvenile pre-trial diversion program for first-time juveniles offenders.  This year he also served as a scoring judge in Brevard County High School Mock trial competition.

In addition to his time with the community, Jonathan enjoys spending time with his family. Jonathan is happily married to his wife, Josephine. Together they adopted their teen daughter Mia from the Brevard County foster care system. The family enjoys playing board games, watching movies, going to amusement parks, attending plays, and playing with their dog Kona.
