Candidate's Statement

Ju’Coby Pittman is a proud native of Jacksonville, who has devoted her career to the advancement of city services, veteran’s advocacy, and innovative community development. Her public service experience has been guided by a simple philosophy, “Go out of your comfort zone to make a difference”. She understands that to effectively work on behalf of the constituents in District 8, it is her responsibility to understand community needs, serve as the voice of the citizens, and leverage her leadership skills and hands-on approach to promote progress.

Currently, Pittman serves as the incumbent councilwoman for District 8, on the Land Use and Zoning Committee (LUZ) and Rules Committees. She was appointed by the Governor and installed on July 12, 2018.

Prior to this appointment, Pittman has served as CEO/President of the Clara White Mission for 25 years, providing social and professional services to Jacksonville’s underserved communities. Under Pittman’s leadership, Clara White Mission has become a nationally recognized full-service community development organization, providing meals, housing, job training, employment and other resources to neighborhoods in need.  

When Pittman recognized that Jacksonville’s veteran population needed more support, she developed an innovative and ambitious expansion plan. In 2017, Pittman managed the opening of Beaver Street Veterans Villas and Outreach Center, a 4,200 square foot, "One Stop Shop " full service facility providing veterans’ permanent housing and supportive services. The Clara White Mission and Beaver Street Veterans Villa’s, provides services to the city’s veterans, homeless and low- individuals. Pittman takes great pride in her role in providing these critical facilities to the community, through public and private partnerships, she has fostered along the way for long term sustainability.

In addition, to her work on City Council and with Clara White Mission, Pittman has served on several political transition teams, supporting Jacksonville Mayors: John Delaney, John Peyton, Alvin Brown and Lenny Curry. She is an active member of several community trustee and advocacy organizations, including Leadership Jacksonville, Leadership Florida, Civitan’s, Ritz Theater & Museum. Junior League, Homeless Coalition, Downtown Rotary Club and Delta Sigma Theta Sorority.

Pittman has been acknowledged in the community for her commitment and contributions. Some of her achievements include: The Eve Award for Employment, the FBI Community Leadership Award, Urban League Leadership Award, Leadership Jacksonville Award, NAACP Award, Mayor’s Commission on the Statues of Woman, HUD Opportunity and Empowerment Award, Jacksonville Business Journal “Women of Influence,” Jessie Ball duPont Leadership Award, Mary Singleton Award, and CDBG Award for Community Revitalization. Pittman earned dual degrees from Florida State College in Jacksonville (Associate in Arts: Business Administration) and Jones College (Bachelor of Science: Business Administration). As one of Jones College’s most accomplished alumna and valued advisors, Pittman was honored with the College’s Doctorate of Humane Letters.

Pittman is a devoted public servant who is committed to engaging constituents, mobilizing government officials, and securing investors and partners in District 8. By bringing all the stakeholders to the table, Pittman, is able to comprehensively address community needs and create sustainable and effective solutions for the community. Pittman’s astute awareness of District 8’s needs, has been developed over years of work in community engagement, revitalization, collaborations and advocacy for economic advancement and social services. Her non-profit and public sector experience has established community partnerships, with passion to promote advancement and prepared her to effectively continue in her seat on the City Council.
