Candidate's Statement

When I entered the race to be your county commissioner, I thought that I would have alot of opportunities to talk with you in person, but Covid 19 has prevented that from happening.  So let me introduce myself.

I grew up in a blue collar family, and at an early age began to work and eventually would work my way thru college at the University of Memphis acquiring a degree in Business.  At that jump off point, I went to work for such Fortune 500 companies as PepsiCo, Johnson& Johnson, and eventually retire early from Pfizer.  At each juncture, I would start at the bottom and advance to management and marketing positions.  I acquired my strong work ethic from my father who retired from Proctor & Gamble after a 32 year career in sales.  And along the way, he influenced me in the areas of serving and giving back to the community.  I have been vacationing in Walton County since I was a young girl and have carried on that tradition with my son Drew, who is now 26.  It's been almost 7 years since I moved to Walton County permanently.  I immediately got involved with the Walton County Executive Committee, Walton Republican Women Federated, and am the district rep for the Florida Federated Republican Women.  But my love of service doesn't stop there.  I volunteer with many non-profits in the area, am on the Defuniak Springs Kiwanis Club BOD, a board member for Walton Academy, Small Business Association board member, Emerald Coast Seniors BOD, and I substitute in the Walton County school system.  In my spare time you can find me traveling to Honduras where I do mission work at Clinica Esperanza.

So now I am ready to work for you.  We need to reverse the negative effects of this pandemic and get our small business stronger than they were before.  We also need to diversify our economy by creating an atmosphere that attracts new businesses and higher paying jobs so we are not so dependant on tourism.  By managing our water quality, we can do a better job of protecting our environment in the bay and coastal dune lakes.  To sustain growth, we need to get a jump on improving roads and infrastructure.

There's alot to do in Walton County and those are my priorities.  I look forward to seeing you when this situation improves and humbly ask for your vote on August 18th.

Stay Safe,

Lisa Johnson
