Candidate: Sarah Jones

            Sarah Jones Candidate for Mayor of Port Orange - Biography 

I was born and raised in upstate NY.  I have a B.A. in Biochemistry and worked in the field of public health for Onondaga County until my retirement in my early 50’s.  While I enjoyed my work, the decision to retire was based on my late husband’s advanced age and my desire to spend more time with him. 

In 1995, my husband and I moved to Port Orange. One year later we purchased the home where I still reside today.  Together, we joined the Port Orange community.  This is a decision that I have never regretted. 

After my husband’s death in 2005 I spent several years traveling and then returned home to life in Port Orange.  I reengaged in our community and began to follow City government closely.  This led to the ideas I have today for making City government more responsive to the residents.  Because I traveled extensively, I believe that I more fully appreciate Florida’s unique environment and history and the need to preserve both.  

I am known for my professional work ethic, and ability to consider facts when making decisions.  If and when new facts are presented, I am willing to change my position.   

 I have no political aspirations beyond Mayor of Port Orange.
