Candidate's Statement

Meet Mr. Victor L. Connelly, a native of the Great Lakes State of Michigan. However, he transplanted to Florida in 1980.

He was raised in a family of educators, with approximately 170 years combined of teaching and coaching experience. 

As a graduate of Michigan State University, and with a B.A. degree in Communication/Education plus a member of the tennis team, Mr. Connelly found himself in middle school English soon upon his arrival in Florida. During his first 6 years as a teacher and basketball coach, he taught in such settings as the regular classroom, the juvenile detention center, and a halfway house for delinquent boys. He also managed a part-time position at Sylvan Learning Center.

Mr. Connelly found a position in the community college setting, and transferred instructing adult education. His subject areas were English, speech, history, and GED. Also, he taught English, speech, and GED part-time at Phillips Junior College where he was rewarded several times for class retention.

 Mr. Connelly decided to train to be an Exceptional Student Educator. After many hours of classes, he became certified and started teaching high school resource English and learning strategies, in a high school. While there, he taught resource, co-teaching, learning strategies, modified ESE classes, and severely emotionally disturbed students, as well as assistant varsity baseball coach.

Continuing his service to education, Mr. Connelly spent the last 9 years of his full time career in the middle school setting. He was appointed to teach a variety of ESE models including resource in English and math, team-teaching history, science, and English, and a modified class covering all subjects.

Victor's current instruction is his working as a Pinellas  County Schools ESE Associate Substitute Teacher. This has allowed him to have worked and helped in 62 schools, and more than 130 classrooms in the Pinellas County Schools for the past 2 years. He is still very active in this program.

Victor L Connelly served on the West Volusia Hospital Authority Citizens Advisory Committee for 7 years. This committee awarded millions to social services organizations. He served as co-chairman several times during his active years. Mr. Connelly is now a member of the Pinellas County Schools Exceptional Student Education Advisory Committee.
