Candidate: Judy Biebesheimer

As one of the incumbent supervisors for CDD1, I have worked diligently to maintain and manage the infrastructure within the boundaries of CDD1.

We, the CDD1 board, are charged with caring for storm and gutter facilities and water retention areas. The Villa roads are owned by the CDD so we must do their maintenance.  Rights of way, landscaping, and appearance of common areas fall under our purview.  Sign walls, street lights, and fences sometimes need to be addressed.  We are also charged with enforcing the deed restrictions listed on our covenant that we signed when we bought our home here in The Villages. Sumter County is responsible for the maintenance of the other roads, so that is not within our CDD1 purview.

Since all of this comes with a price tag, our committee wants to be financially responsible to our residents. The funds we work with come from the annual maintenance charge on our tax bill.  Believe me, we want it to be as low as we can keep it and still maintain the financial security for the years ahead. This year we are advocating a 15% raise which is still not enough to keep up with future inflation.

I have gone to nearly every AAC and CDD1 meetings for years.  As a resident and concerned about our community, I believe all of us should show an interest and take an active part if we think we can make a change for the good. I believe I am doing that.  My husband tells me I am not too diplomatic but if calling a spade a spade is called for, I will do that.

My husband, Bill, and I moved 22 times before we found The Villages 28 years ago and called it home. Bill is a civil engineer with degrees from Purdue and Stanford. We moved from job to job building cement plants, rolling mills, alumina refineries etc.  Our 2 sons joined us as we traveled the world and they thought this life was normal.  Mike, the oldest, is an aeronautical space engineer from Purdue and he and his wife live in Sebastian Florida.  Alan, an FIT graduate in mechanical engineering, lives in N. Augusta South Carolina.  We have 2 grandchildren.

I have always been an advocate for my neighbors here in Palo Alto. Early on Bill and I organized our community social groups, going door to door welcoming new neighbors, printing a neighborhood phone directory and establishing a lending garage full of sick room needs and baby items like highchairs, strollers, toys, etc. when these services were not yet available here.

I currently lead a glass fusion group at El Santiago Rec Center three times a week.  My hobbies are gardening and genealogy.
