Candidate: Leandro Barreiro

My name is Lee (Leandro) Barreiro. I was born in Tampa, FL, the grandson of Spanish and Cuban immigrants and I am fluent in Spanish. I have two children, Daniel and Janine, one grandchild, Kevin, and am married to a beautiful lady named Annie. My wife and I moved to the Daytona Beach area in 1993 and we have lived in Port Orange since 2005.

I retired in 2010, with a background in environmental and civil engineering. I was the Environmental Engineer for a phosphate plant in Tampa, FL, that employed 1,400 people. During my training for plant manager, I enforced safety standards and as a result, production and quality of the products of the different units increased. I was responsible for the plant wide process water balance for the entire plant. Also monitored and reported on discharge water quality. I worked as a Civil Engineer in permitting a potable water distribution system by using a proprietary pump and piping model for permitting by the City of Ormond Beach.

My background and the fact that I am retired afford me an opportunity to be of service to the City of Port Orange. My wife and I live on Rose Bay and although improvements have been made with respect to ground and surface water quality, I believe we can do better. We love to fish and watch the wild life on the bay. I want this area to be here for future generations. I believe with the proper management of factors that influence the quality of the water in our neighborhoods, we can enjoy this beautiful city for years to come.
