Candidate's Statement

Hi Neighbors,

I am running for the North Sumter County Utility Dependent District (NSCUDD) because I believe I am called to. I have the relevant education, and experience, and have owned three businesses including half ownership in an excavating company.

I am an Honor Roll graduate who earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration, with course work in Earth Sciences, Accounting, and Information Systems. I have credits towards a Master's Degree.

Here are some of my other qualifications.

  •     Accounting work including Budgeting on County Boards
  •     Board Member Charlotte County, FL Beaches and Shores
  •     Board Member Charlotte County, MSTU Street & Drainage
  •     Board Member Charlotte County, Manasota Key Advisory
  •     Charlotte County, FL Community Emergency Response Team
  •     Attended lectures given by UF/IFAS
  •     Watched SWFWMD meetings
  •     Supported FL SB 712 (2020) Waterways
  •     Supported FL SB 2500 line 1607A (2021) Septic to Sewer
  •     Attended Water Quality Summits & Symposiums
  •     Trained volunteer water tester for FDEP
  •     I do my homework with the FDEP & FDOH
  •     Attended Orientation, & The Villages Resident Academy
  •     Toured The Villages Bonita Wastewater Plant

I helped lobby for multi-faceted solutions to water problems by respectfully and concisely communicating with elected officials, and staff, at the County, State, and Federal levels. I am impressed The Villages does not send our stuff down river into other communities. This isn't always the case elsewhere.

Currently, our annual water quality report shows good water quality. I can bring a good understanding of test results and logical contingency planning to the table. Everything is, and should continue to be purchased, lead free.

While precautionary boil orders are rare, and usually for routine maintenance, I do encourage you to sign up for those notifications at the VCDD e-Notifications Sign Up (districtgov.org). Also, never put anything down the street storm drains.

I currently support the use of Jacobs Waste to Covanta Energy instead of hauling to Georgia.  At the end of the process, Covanta recycles the left over ferrous and non-ferrous metals.

I live full time in the District I am running for. My address is protected because I was a FL Guardian Ad Litem (GAL) for children for the 20th Circuit Court. My husband served in the U.S. Air Force. We own a home, and live full time, in District 7. Prior to that we owned a home in District 10.  We both love our country.

I have been background checked three times, first when I worked with large payrolls, then as a GAL, and then when I obtained my conceal carry permit. This position is "no party affiliation". I support our Constitution including the Bill of Rights. I value intelligence, civility, service, and integrity in government. I will be on the November General Ballot for Florida registered voters with District 7 addresses.

Thank you,

Ellie Decker
