Candidate's Statement

In April 2018, Sally Moss was appointed by Governor Rick Scott to the Sumter County School Board, filling a seat vacated by the late Haydn Evans.  In the November 2018 General Election, she ran and was elected to a four-year term to continue serving on the Sumter School Board.

Sally believes our students are the future of Sumter County and she gives over 100% to her position as a Sumter County School Board Member.  She has always believed in Parental Rights and has personally supported the PTO's (Parent/Teacher Organizations) at the Sumter Schools.  Sally was raised in a Military household and believes in our Constitution and always doing what is best for those we serve.

Since being elected to the Sumter School Board in 2018, in addition to her School Board responsibilities, Sally currently serves on the Board of Trustees of the FL PALM Investment Trust, sponsored by the Florida School Board Association & the Florida Association of Districts School Superintendents. She also serves as the School Board Representative on three Sumter County Boards: the Value Adjustment Board, the Lake-Sumter MPO Transportation Board and the Lake-Sumter Transportation Disadvantaged Coordinating Board.

In December 2020, Sally was awarded the Certified Board Member Designation by the Florida School Board Association. This Designation was the result of 96 hours of continuing education and is held by less than 30% of the School Board Members in the State of Florida.  At this same time, she was asked by the Florida School Board Association to be a Mentor to New School Board Members elected in other Florida School Districts.

She has also supported the Students of the Sumter County Schools by:

Arranging with the ‘100 Telescope Project’, for telescopes w/tripods to be endowed to each of the District’s Elementary Schools and Middle Schools Science Departments.

Being the first Village Resident to ride in the Voyage Autonomous Car as a ‘test rider’, she arranged for the South Sumter High School Award winning Robotics Team to spend a day with the Technicians & Engineers of the Voyage Company to further their knowledge in robotics & have contacts for their future education.

During the Pandemic in 2020, she organized the first ‘Sumter Public Schools Supply Drive’.  This Supply Drive is now an annual event, providing school supplies & financial donations for our students.  It is held for three days prior to the new school year starting.  In its three year history, over $50,000 of school supplies & over $16,000 in monetary donations have been raised.  All supplies & dollars raised are divided equally between the eight public schools in Sumter County.

She served as the Tournament Director for the 36th Annual 2020 ‘Scholarships for Graduates Golf Tournament’ raising over $18,000 for scholarships to graduating seniors at South Sumter & Wildwood High School attending Lake-Sumter State College.

Sally and her husband, Michael, have lived in The Villages since 2004, and live in The Village of Virginia Trace.  She served 12 years as an Resident Elected District Supervisor for Community Development District #6 from 2006-2018.
