Candidate's Statement

My name is Jim Knickle and I am pleased to announce my candidacy for Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District Seat #1.  I have worked in Public Service most of my life and I continue to have a strong desire to serve my community.

My wife, Ellen and I came to Fort Myers Beach shortly after my retirement in 2011.  Like many others, we started out as seasonal visitors but soon fell in love with this area and in 2015 we made Fort Myers Beach our permanent home.

I seek this seat on the Commission out of a strong sense of community service.  I have a unique combination of skills and experience based on my forty years in Public Safety and my service on a variety of community boards.

Before coming to Fort Myers Beach, I served with the Kettering, Ohio Police Department, retiring with the rank of Lieutenant.  During that time, I worked in or commanded numerous Sections in the Department including Uniform Patrol, Criminal Investigations, Support and Administration.  I worked closely with the City Administration and Fire Command during the implementation of a unified 911 Center serving both Police and Fire Services.  I served as a member of the CALEA accreditation team that brought the agency into compliance with national professional standards of excellence.  I also served as the union representative for the police command staff bargaining unit.

I am a U.S. Army veteran and served as a combat medic in the Army Reserve.  I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Dayton where I earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Criminal Justice.

Since coming to Fort Myers Beach, I have served on the Board of Directors of the Estero Cove Condominium Association and as President since 2018.

I was recently appointed and am currently serving on the Fort Myers Beach Fire Commission completing the term of recently vacated Seat #1.  I am also a member of the Public Safety Advisory Committee for the Town of Fort Myers Beach.

My approach to governance as a Commissioner of the Fort Myers Beach Fire Control District is to maintain a safe community by providing professional, competent and fiscally responsible service to our citizens.

I look forward to continuing to serve our community on the Fire Commission.  Please feel free to contact me directly at KnickleFMBFire2020@gmail.com.
