Candidate's Statement

BRIEF BIO

Juan A. Gonzalez, as a servant leader, he is committed to equipping individuals and communities empower themselves, creating opportunities through holistic approaches that result in positive transformation and a better quality of life. He is about Paradigm Shifts. Attitude Adjustments. Influence. Community Building. Fostering cooperative goals. Seeking innovative solutions. Building trusting relationships. 

EXECUTIVE LEADERSHIP: 

For over 40 years Rev. Juan A. Gonzalez has founded and directed faith-based and community-based development organizations in various legislative and administrative forums; and has served on a number of prestigious international, national and regional boards and commissions in the areas of urban planning, arts, youth and family, health, affordable housing, community and economic development. Serving on Hospital, Community Development Corporation, Foundation and agency boards. Served on Goverment (City, County, & State), Public School, and University/College Advisory Boards. Raising & managing millions of dollars with professional & volunteer staff. He has been a dedicated individual who bring a range of confident leadership, skills and experience to any project or issue. His influence, involvement in and commitment to a project can be a critical factor in its ultimate success. As a visionary/dreamer and risk-taker who, often with very few or no resources at the outset, have the passion and drive to take a project from idea to reality. He is a poet, writer, theologian, activist, urban planner and entrepreneur. 

EDUCATION & SERVICE EXPERIENCE: 

He graduated with both Bachelor and Master’s degrees from the University of Buffalo, New York (1975-1979) & Concordia Lutheran Theological Seminary, St. Catherines, Ontario, Canada (1988). He has invested in continuing education & specialized training plus earned certificates and recognitions in housing, real estate, leadership, entrepreneurship and business management. He served from 1985 to the present as a parish pastor, theologian & administrator in LCMS Congregations in Buffalo, New York; Miami, Florida; Lorain, Ohio; and Brooklyn, New York. Served as an associate/equipping pastor at Hope, Bonita Springs, Florida; a short-term mission work in both Sterling & Cooper Landing in the Kenai Peninsula, Alaska. On October 31, 2015 he was installed as the newly called Pastor of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church, Lehigh Acres, Florida (Part-time/Semi-retired). 

Currently is Founder/President & CEO of The HIVE Community Development Corporation, Inc., Lehigh Acres, Florida, since 2017. A Community Economic Development and Asset-based Corporation. www.thehivecdc.org.  Founder/Principal Partner/owner of Effective Growth Management, Inc. for over 30 years, www.egmconsultants.orgExecutive Director of Lutheran Services New York Alliance, New York City (2007-2010) www.lsnya.org.  He also served as National Consultant and Leadership Trainer for the LCMS World Relief & Human Care’ National Housing Support Corporation, St. Louis, Mo., (2004-2007). www.lcmsworldrelief.orgThroughout his life-time served as Chief Executive Officer and Consultant for various non-profit organizations, churches, foundations, and small businesses.

In 1995, the Metropolitan Miami-Dade County government awarded him with the “Key to the County” (one of the highest leadership recognition awards given by the county government). 

Also in 1995, was a recipient of a Dorothy Richardson National Award for “Outstanding community leadership, commitment to revitalizing America’s neighborhoods and demonstration of solutions for local community problems from the inside out” by the Neighbor Works’ Partnership Institute (formerly Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation, Washington, D.C.).

He traveled extensively to over 125 U.S.A. cities in 44 states. Traveled internationally to over 38 countries including the Caribbean, Canada, Mexico, Central America, Europe, Africa, Japan, Mainland China/Hong Kong, the Mediterranean and the Middle East, Asia.

In his spare time, he is a graphic artist, photographer, poet, writer, editor, and publisher. An avid reader on diverse topics and interest: who enjoys playing chess, listening to music - especially Jazz & Gospel, traveling, swimming, cooking gourmet foods, watching movies, celebrating family time, Bible Study, the beach and outdoor camping. Enjoys conversing about faith, the market place, and public policy. 

Both he and his wife Eva of 40 years presently lives in Lehigh Acres, Florida, since early 2010; and have three (3) adult children, and three (3) grandchildren.
