Candidate's Statement

Carl Jones was born in Kansas City, MO to Charles and Gladis Jones, the youngest of 11 children.  He was educated in the Kansas City public schools as well as in Pine Bluff, Arkansas public schools where he moved with his mother at 15 years old. After graduating high school, Carl decided to join the United States Air Force as a Security Forces member, always wanting to serve in law enforcement in some capacity.  He retired from the United States Air Force after serving 26 years with distinction and honor as a Senior Master Sergeant and Bronze Star recipient.  He is a law enforcement and physical security expert, having served in Iraq, Afghanistan, Saudi Arabia and various other campaigns in defense of our country.

Carl and his family have lived in various states in America and a number of countries around the world.  Their last assignment was Okinawa Japan (Kadena Air Base) where he retired in 2011.   Carl decided the family would move to Palm Coast 6 years ago and he was determined to be a productive citizen of this community, as he has been in every community he had been assigned through-out his  military career.  He started by substituting and mentoring at Indian Trails Middle School.  His efforts produced over 80 students--who may not have progressed to high school--become successful freshman and graduates.  Carl’s dedication earned him Mentor of the Year in 2017 by the Flagler County’s African-American Mentorship Program; he currently serves on their board.  He also is a board member for Inspiration Of Hope Community Resources, Inc. and a member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., where he serves as their Mentorship Committee, Chair.

Carl holds a MA in Adult Education & Training, BA in Criminal Justice and two Associates degrees, Instructor of Technology in Military Science & Criminal Justice, respectively.  Carl was hand-picked for extensive training at the coveted Federal Law Enforcement Center, catapulting his selection as an instructor at the Air Force’s Security Forces Academy for 4 years, impacting over 21K Airman during his tenure.  He was selected as “Instructor of the Year”, twice and Instructor Supervisor of the Year..  He has been a trainer and facilitator on various security projects.

Carl has been married to Teldra (Whitehead) Jones for 26 years and they have two children, Carly & Kace.

Carl is currently running for School Board Member, District 2.  As an expert in security, an education advocate and genuine caring for children makes him an excellent choice.
