Candidate: Carissa Bergosh

I am Carissa Bergosh, and I am from Pensacola, Florida.  I am a graduate of Tate High School and Pensacola State College where I earned an Associates of Arts degree.  I earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Education, with honors, from the University of West Florida.  I taught elementary School in Memphis, Tennessee for 2-years and then earned a Master’s Degree in Counseling and Professional Services from the University of Memphis.  I have been a classroom teacher and a guidance counselor in Northern Virginia, in the Department of Defense Schools in Japan and in several schools in Escambia County.  Florida Governor Jeb Bush appointed me to serve on the Escambia County School Board for one year during a vacancy on the Board.  I am currently an educator with the federal government.

I have dedicated my life's work to educating children and earned my education degree and was a classroom teacher before I was married.  Our public schools are important to me and can and should provide a world class education to all our children.  I am personally invested in our public schools.  My oldest son graduated from West Florida Technical High School and my youngest son is currently in an Escambia County public high school.

My priorities are teaching students how to think, not what to think by focusing on reading, writing, mathematics, science, civics, history, arts and career/technical subjects.  Our schools must be free from bullying. Also, student discipline and respect for teachers/educational support personnel/parents must be a top priority and enforced.
