Candidate's Statement

Jim “Andy” Taylor was born in 1954 at Baptist Hospital.  He is the middle son of Andrew and Eva Taylor.  Jim has worked hard all of his life, including a stint as a newspaper carrier for the Pensacola News Journal, where he was selected as “Carrier of the Year” six times.  Jim went on to graduate from PJC and the University of West Florida.  After graduation, Jim built a very successful teaching and coaching career.  He was an assistant coach to legendary coaches, Fred Waters, Bill Fryman, and Carl Madison.  Jim excelled as a head coach in middle school, community, and high school sports, where he won championships in three sports.  After coaching, Jim became a school social worker with the Escambia County School System.  While being a former State Master Teacher, Jim received a Master’s Degree in Leadership in 1997 from the University of West Florida with graduate work in three other fields.  In his role as visiting teacher and school social worker, Jim worked with many local businesses to provide food to needy families in Escambia County.  Jim has forty-four years of educational experience and retired from the Escambia County School System in 2020.  Jim is a Christian conservative.  He also is a longtime member of the National Rifle Association and Band of Brothers bible study group.

Jim is married to Victoria Taylor.  They have a daughter, Jennifer, and three wonderful grandchildren -- granddaughters, Eva (named after Jim’s mother), Emy, and grandson, Michael.  Jim is an avid and successful hunter and fisherman.  He is a Christian and believes deeply in God.  Jim has worked in numerous campaigns in the past, with great success.  He believes strongly in smaller government, less red tape, lower taxes, and more integrity in government.  Jim is determined to see that Escambia County Schools receive the respect they deserve and their fair share of county services.  Jim is a strong supporter of local and small businesses as well as a strong proponent of parents’ rights.

Jim is a proven leader and winner.  He was previously selected to attend the National Educational Leadership Conference in Washington, D.C., where he met with congressmen and visited U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio’s office.  Jim is well known locally, and in Tallahassee and Washington, D.C.  He has proven that he can get things done by working with the local, state, and federal government.  Jim has forty-four years of experience in public education and holds five teaching certifications, and a Master’s Degree in Leadership. Jim has taught everything from Theater Arts to Advanced Science.  Jim was recently honored by the County Commission for his work to help families and children.  We ask that you vote for Jim “Andy” Taylor for School Board, District 5 -- For the Children.
