Candidate's Statement

John Thomas is a lifelong resident of Brevard County, renowned for his unwavering commitment to serving and improving the lives of Space Coast residents. With a diverse background encompassing law enforcement, education, athletics, and business, John brings a wealth of experience and expertise in support of his candidacy.

During his distinguished career, John served as a field training officer (FTO) and narcotics detective, playing a vital role in training and mentoring police officers, combating drug trafficking, and ensuring the safety of the community. His passion for community safety eventually led him to focus on prevention and working with our community's children, as he served as a School Resource Officer and Executive Director of the Greater Melbourne Police Athletic League. In these capacities, John supported and inspired South Brevard's youth to realize their full individual potential, building a bridge of trust between them, law enforcement, and the community.

Recognized for his exceptional coaching abilities and dedication to mentoring young people, John made a significant impact as the dean of students and head football coach at Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy. Under his guidance, John's teams achieved remarkable success, clinching two District Championships and producing numerous collegiate athletes who earned the opportunity to attend and play at esteemed institutions such as the University of Notre Dame, the United States Air Force Academy, Harvard, Columbia, and the University of Pennsylvania, among others.  Acknowledged by his fellow high school coaches, John was selected as the Florida Athletic Coaches Association's "District Coach of the Year" three times.

John's dedication to education and community service extended beyond coaching. He served as a two-term member of the Melbourne City Council and as a member of the Airport Authority Board overseeing the Melbourne-Orlando International Airport, where he passionately advocated for public safety, fiscal responsibility, and infrastructure improvements. In addition, he held leadership positions at the Florida Institute of Technology, playing a pivotal role in initiating the university's first NCAA Division II football program and fostering valuable corporate partnerships, ultimately attaining the position of Associate Vice President.

Currently, as the CEO of the Home Builders and Contractors Association of Florida's Space Coast, John is working to address the need for vocational opportunities for young people, making further contributions to the community. John currently volunteers as board member for Neighbor Up Brevard.  With his extensive background in law enforcement, education, athletics, business, and community engagement, John stands as the ideal candidate for the School Board, embodying unwavering dedication, exceptional leadership, and a positive impact on the Space Coast community.
