Candidate's Statement

Laure Bee “BeBe” Roberson III seeks Suwannee County Property Appraiser office

A native Suwannee Countian, BeBe is the only candidate who has years of experience in the property appraisal field and office

Laure Bee “BeBe” Roberson III has worked in the property appraisal of Florida properties for the past 34 years. “BeBe,” is a Suwannee Countian seeking the office of Suwannee County Property Appraiser in the 2020 election. Laure Bee “BeBe” Roberson III is the only candidate to announce who has direct experience working in the property appraiser’s office and on a state level with the Florida  Department of Revenue and can be ready to serve the first day in office.

“I have a total of 12 years’ experience working in a property appraiser’s (PA) office, four years of which were in the Suwannee County Property Appraiser’s office under current Property Appraiser Lamar Jenkins, and eight years in Central Florida,” BeBe states.

BeBe started his property appraisal career 34 years ago (1984 -1992) in the Hillsborough County Property Appraiser’s (PA) office,” he says proudly. This Suwannee High School grad worked in the agricultural and residential department, prepared many, many Value Adjustment Board (VAB) cases, gained experience handling front counter value disputes, specialty properties and among other responsibilities was involved in homestead exemption fraud investigations. While there, BeBe obtained his Certified Florida Evaluator designation from the International Association of Assessing Officers. “But, I wanted to return home to Suwannee County at some point and be near my family and lifelong friends,” he adds. Planning ahead to make that happen, BeBe was hired in 1992 for a job with the Florida Department of Revenue’s (DOR) Property Tax Administration. There, he was assigned in-depth study audits each year of various North Florida counties consisting of residential and commercial properties to determine if the counties were in compliance with Florida statues. He also assisted Hamilton, Levy and Suwannee counties with special projects during his time with DOR. As part of his DOR job, BeBe reviewed appraisers’ work to check for compliance with DOR guidelines.

During his 22 years with the state he also dealt with agriculture values and classified properties, all of which are handled by property appraisers.

In April of 2014 BeBe accepted a job with Suwannee County Property Appraiser’s office as tax roll supervisor. He worked for Suwannee County citizens in this office until November of 2018.

“I believe that for anyone to appropriately serve as a property appraiser, they should have the experience I have gained the past 34 years,” BeBe states. He believes he is the only candidate who has worked long and hard to learn how to run a property appraiser’s office, has a clear understanding of how and why the office must be efficiently run and how to adhere to the Florida statutes to best serve Suwannee County. “Because of my lifelong experience working in property appraisers’ offices and with the Florida Department of Revenue, I am totally qualified to get the tax roll out on time as well as serve the people of Suwannee County efficiently and in a timely manner.

Laure Bee “BeBe” Roberson III believes he should:

*Treat a person the same way he wishes to be treated

*Be fair, honest and act accordingly

*Help anyone he can, and if he can’t, explain why

*If elected, always be mindful he works for you, the Suwannee County property owners, citizens and voters

Laure Bee “BeBe” Roberson III is not a politician, although his grandfather, Laure Bee Roberson, served as a Suwannee County Commissioner, as did BeBe’s father, Laure Bee “Sam” Roberson, Jr. and BeBe’s aunt, Marjorie Carmichael, served as Suwannee County Supervisor of Elections. “I am not a politician. I have never run for office, but with my valuable experience, I believe I can make a difference. I am like other voters in this county, I was raised in Suwannee County, love this county and believe I can serve our county well and put to work the 34 years of solid work experience in property appraisal that fully qualifies me for the office. As a native Suwannee Countian, I believe I have the same feeling for our county as most of you to look out for our people to the best of my ability while following the statues,” BeBe adds.

BeBe Roberson, candidate for Suwannee County Property Appraiser for 2020, welcomes your support, your ideas, comments, handshakes, hugs and prayers during this campaign. “I promise to run a clean campaign and speak about the issues. This is the first time in many years a new property appraiser will be elected in 2020. I am asking you to vote for and elect me, Laure Bee “BeBe” Roberson III as Suwannee County Property Appraiser.

Laure Bee “BeBe” Roberson III, family consist of; father Sam, mother Eyvonne, wife Ellen, children Zach, Clay / Taylor and Josh. BeBe is a member and attends Antioch Baptist Church.

The Property Appraiser's office is not a department of the Board of County Commissioners. The property appraiser is an elected official and their authority comes from the Florida Statutes. The Florida Department of Revenue is charged with the oversight and review of the operations of the appraiser's office and performs in-depth audits of the tax rolls every two years to determine the integrity of the assessments.

Other responsibilities of the property appraiser include the administration of exemptions (homestead, widows, widowers, blind, disability and total exemptions), maintenance of property ownership records, and maintaining aerial photographs of the county.
