Candidate's Statement

My Website

I am adament that public education needs to have the public's input. It is time to put the "public" back in "public education."

Born and raised in Lee County, I am a single father of twin 7th graders.  I can honestly say I know what it is like to be a parent with kids in the district. I attend the extra-curricular activites and I sit with my kids for the academic studies. I've helped assemble the Science Fair Board at 10pm the night before it is due. I attend the Parent/Teacher conferences, talent shows, and all the other commitments required to help my kids reach their full potential.

I am proud of the education my children are receiving in Lee County. I am thankful for all the teachers that work to make today's students grow into tomorrow's  leaders.

I am a plumber by trade. I have 26+ years of experience working on variable commercial and residential plumbing projects.  I am a blue collar worker that cleans up well and can work for the people in a suit and tie too!

From 2010-2014 I was the District 4 representative. During my service I accomplished many things, but more importantly I learned a lot.

  • In 2010, I saved almost a million dollars my first year pushing for transportation reform. Sadly, this needs done again.
  • In 2011, I listened and heard parents' concerns. I stood with them at their kids' bus stops, in the dark, to experience their situations and pushed for the city council and board to have lighting installed. For “budget reasons” the board would not approve it.
  • In 2012, I met with the Lee County Sheriff and implemented bringing a K-9 into district schools to sniff out drugs, keeping schools drug free and safe.
  • 2014 was also a busy year.  In August,  I supported the teachers, students and parents when we became the first district to Opt-Out of the Mandated over-testing of students. I still believe testing is not teaching and not everything can be judged by a test result.
  • Also in 2014, I was stunned when I heard a teacher was told not to teach anything about 9/11 because it took too much time away from test prep.
  • I made a motion that passed, to require a minimum of 10 minutes of "age appropriate"  teaching or discussion on the anniversary of September 11. No test should ever negate the history of our country.

Let's fix these issues TOGETHER!
