Candidate's Statement

I have been honored to represent District 6 on Pensacola's City Council since 2018 and to have been selected by my peers to serve as City Council President this year. In my second term, I will continue to advance the projects that are important to the neighborhoods in my district.

District 6 projects I have sponsored during my first term:

+ Water quality testing, stormwater improvements

+ Street trees, stronger tree ordinance, choosing native trees

+ Historic preservation and historic building demolition review

+ Affordable housing, affordable rent

+ Improved sidewalks, bike lanes, dog parks & playgrounds

+ Gonzalez Street Shareway, road diets

+ The Pensacola Bay Paddling Trail & Blueway Community

+ Opening Bruce Beach to the public

+ Public marinas at Community Maritime Park, Baylen Slips

+ More diverse city council boards

+ Gen. Chappie James bridge and memorial

Key committees I have worked on:

-- FL-AL Transportation Planning Organization

-- Pensacola & Perdido Bays Estuary Program

-- Pensacola-Escambia Affordable Housing Advisory Committee

-- Eastside Neighborhood CRA council rep

-- Downtown Improvement Board council rep

-- Keep Pensacola Beautiful council rep

I have owned a circa 1890 house in Belmont-DeVilliers since 1991 and served on the Belmont-DeVilliers Neighborhood Association executive board for eight years. I represented B-DNA during the first meetings of Council of Neighborhood Association Presidents of Pensacola.

I was also named to the Community Maritime Park Associates and served on that board until CMP operations were returned to the city.

I earned a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from the University of Michigan in Ann Arbor and my career has been in daily newspapers and tourism marketing. My current interests include gardening and local history. My passion is representing the people of District 6.
