Candidate: AL BUTLER

Commissioner Butler resides in District 1, which includes the general areas of the Villages - North of 466A to 466, and East of Buena Vista Boulevard to the county line.

Commissioner Butler has been certified by the Florida Association of Counties and holds an Advanced County Commissioner Certification. He serves as a Board Member on the Withlacoochee Regional Water Supply Authority, where he previously served as Chairman.Commissioner Butler also serves on the CareerSource Central Florida Consortium which focuses on employment and economic development issues.

Commissioner Butler graduated from the University of Florida with a degree in Engineering. He has over 40 years of Corporate Executive experience in the manufacturing industry. He is a graduate of General Electric’s Management Development Program and has served as Chief Executive Officer and Chief Financial Officer of several manufacturing businesses.

Commissioner Butler has a solid history of investing in the responsible growth of Sumter County. He has previously served as Chairman of the Sumter County Republican Executive Committee, and Chairman of the Sumter County Industrial Development Authority, and as a Director of the Villages Homeowners’ Association.

Commissioner Butler and his wife, Marcia, came to Sumter County in 2005. Married for 54 years, they met while attending the University of Florida. They have two daughters and four grandchildren who also live in Florida.
