ELECT STAN SMITH COMMISSIONER CHARLOTTE COUNTY AIRPORT AUTHORITY DISTRICT 4 AIRORT COMMISSIONER
Stan Smith retired in 2016 after 32 years as Captain with United Airlines. With the airlines, Stan has captained Boeing 737's, 757's, 767's and 787's. Stan's aviation experience also includes establishing and owning two air charter operations and being Director of Training for a regional airline.
Stan is currently President of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA) Chapter 565 at Punta Gorda Airport. Stan has multiple FAA Pilot Ratings, including Airline Transport and is also a Certified Flight and Advanced Ground Instructor.
As an active member in the community, Stan is a member of the Charlotte County Republican Club, Charlotte-DeSoto Republican Club, Burnt Store Republican Club, West Charlotte Republican Club and is on the Advisory Committee for the Punta Gorda Airport 20-Year Master Plan.
Stan was born and raised in York, Pennsylvania and graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Aerospace Engineering.
Stan and his family have been full-time residents of Charlotte County for over 30 years. Stan's wife of 41 years, Linda Smith, is also a retired Captain with Continental Airlines. Their son attended Charlotte High School and later graduated from Florida State University.
Stan and his wife are currently building and restoring multiple airplanes at Charlotte County Airport, including an Air Cam and 1962 Piper Cherokee. They are also actively involved in the planning and preparations of the 2018 Charlotte County Airshow.
Stan’s Priorities
ENHANCE AIRPORT REVENUES
Continue to promote the Airport to achieve additional airline service.
Achieve and maintain full lease of hangers and airport facilities.
Promote the use and development of airport property that is currently dormant and not projected to be used by the 20 year master plan.
IMPROVE ECONOMIC IMPACT
Promote tourism throughout the Charlotte County Area and use the Charlotte County Airport to achieve this goal.
Continue to develop aviation oriented business as well as industrial use of undeveloped Charlotte County Airport land.
Provide all necessary assistance to Allegiant Airlines Airlines to continue to grow and prosper at the Charlotte County Airport.
EXECUTE AIRPORT MASTER PLAN
Prioritize Runway reconstruction to allow airport to succeed in the future.
PROMOTE GENERAL AVIATION
Promote general aviation at the Airport.
Prioritize construction of new hangers.
Promote use of Airport by Corporate Aviation.
