Candidate's Statement

Miguel “Michael” Rodriguez is a retired Navy Chief who served from 1983 to 2003.  During his 20 years of Naval Service, he served on the aircraft carrier USS JOHN F KENNEDY based in Norfolk, Virginia, from 1984 to 1987.  Following his assignment on the KENNEDY, he remained in Norfolk and served at the Headquarters of the Supreme Allied Commander, Atlantic from 1987 to 1990.

Following training at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA), he served in the Defense Attaché’s Office at the American Embassy in Dakar, Senegal, from 1991 to 1994.  Following his posting in Senegal, Michael received additional training at DIA and was assigned to the Defense Attaché’s Office at the American Embassy in Suva, Fiji, from 1995 to 1998.

Following his grueling assignment in Fiji, Michael served at US Central Command on MacDill AFB from 1998 to 2001.  Shortly after 9/11, he reported to the guided-missile destroyer USS THE SULLIVANS, where he served until he retired from Naval service in 2003.

Immediately following his retirement in 2003, Michael continued to serve our country as a contractor and was hired by the Northrop Grumman Corporation as a training specialist and manager.  He was based out of US Central Command on MacDill from 2003 to 2015 and conducted a total of 31 deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan, Kuwait, Qatar, Jordan, and Africa.

Upon leaving Northrop in 2015, Michael started a business that provided logistics support to US military forces in the Kingdom of Jordan.  In 2017, he worked as a Board Recording Secretary for the Hillsborough Board of County Commissioners. In 2018, Michael and his wife (Helena) launched an event planning business.  Also, in that same year, Michael was hired by Rizzetta as the CDD Manager at the Venetian Golf and River Club.  In 2019, he was reassigned as the Club Director at the Harbor Bay CDD, in January 2020, he was assigned as a District Manager and in June 2020 he was assigned as the Clubhouse and Amenities Manager at the Meadow Pointe III community.

Michael has a Bachelor’s degree in Criminology and recently earned a Master’s degree in Business Administration from Saint Leo University.
