Biography – Rick Warrener
I am a retired bank Controller and CFO. I have two sons and four grandchildren living in the area and attending Hillsborough County public schools. One son is a middle-school science teacher and the other a free-lance writer. My daughters-in-law are both immigrants, born in El Salvador and China.
I was born and raised in Sylvania Ohio (near Toledo), the third son of a lifelong first grade and kindergarten teacher. During the course of her career, my mother helped over 1,000 children off to a good start in life during their first year of school.
I graduated from Bowling Green State University with an Accounting major in Business Administration. My career began as a CPA with Ernst & Ernst in Atlanta. I have been a resident of Hillsborough County since 1974. Most of my career was spent as the leader, manager and trainer of the accounting and finance departments of banks.
I have been a Big Brother for boys in both Ohio and Florida and am currently a volunteer Guardian Ad Litem. I am also treasurer of my Homeowners Association. My hobby is tennis. Since 1976, I have captained teams competing in local leagues. 40+ years of tennis has kept me active and in good health. In 2018, I was campaign manager during my son’s low-budget, independent campaign for House District 64 (NW Hillsborough & NE Pinellas). While researching local and state political issues, I prepared information to educate citizens about the need for substantially more funding for K-12 Public Education, the Department of Children and Families and the Department of Juvenile Justice.
