Mitch Thrower is a candidate for Hillsborough County School Board District 3.  He has been actively volunteering in the community with public schools, youth organizations, and neighborhood groups as well as serving on many Hillsborough County appointed boards. He has proudly served on the Hillsborough County Planning Commission for the past eight years where he was elected Chairman six times.  Currently, he serves as Vice Chairman of the 2020 Hillsborough County Charter Review Board.

Growing up in northern Hillsborough County, Mitch was raised in a family with a father who served in the U.S. Air Force and mother who worked for Hillsborough County Public Schools as a teacher and principal. He attended public schools including Miles Elementary, Buchanan Middle and Chamberlain High School graduating in 1986.  He earned a Bachelor of Science in Management degree from Tulane University and an MBA from Florida State University.  Following college, Mitch worked as a substitute teacher for Hillsborough County Public Schools.

Mitch is a CPA (Certified Public Accountant) and CIA ( Certified Internal Auditor) with extensive experience in auditing, budgeting, banking, risk management and safety. His professional accounting career began at the State of Florida, Office of the Auditor General as an internal auditor conducting school board audits. He audited Clay, Nassau, Hernando, Pasco, and Hillsborough County school boards. He worked for a private accounting firm before joining Hillsborough County Aviation Authority in 1998.

Mitch is married to Brenda and they have three children, all who attended Hillsborough County Public Schools.
