Candidate: Bill Prummell

Sheriff Bill Prummell files for re-election to the Office of Charlotte County Sheriff. Sheriff Bill Prummell is a 23 year veteran in law enforcement, who began his career with the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office in 1992. He worked his way through the ranks and throughout most areas of the Agency. He was elected as Sheriff on August 14, 2012 and sworn in as Sheriff on January 8, 2013. During his three years as Sheriff, overall crime rates have declined 26%. This was accomplished by focusing on community partnerships and intelligence led policing. Sheriff Prummell has continued to be fiscally responsible, holding the line on operational costs, but was able to work with the BOCC to obtain raises for staff after five years. He has reduced the number of command staff, achieved the first National Gold Standard Accreditation assessment status for the Sheriff’s Office and attained National Accreditation for the communications center. Sheriff Prummell\'s greatest fulfillment comes from his family. He is married for 26 years to Tara, a kindergarten teacher. They have two sons and a daughter – Billy, Catelynn and Andrew – along will Billy\'s wife, Marla, and grandson Billy the IV. Sheriff Prummell holds a Bachelors of Arts Degree in Criminology from St. Leo University; a Master’s Degree in Business Administration from IMPAC University; and a Master’s Degree in Criminal Justice from American Public University. In addition, he is a graduate of the Florida Sheriff’s Institute, the National Sheriff\'s Institute, the 239th session of the FBI National Academy in Quantico, Virginia, and Florida’s Senior Leadership Program in Tallahassee, Florida. Sheriff Prummell was one of the founders of the Region Six Intelligence Exchange for southwest Florida. He serves proudly on the Board of Directors for CARE, is Chair for Drug Free Charlotte County, a member of the Florida Sheriff’s Association, serving on their Legislative Committee, and sits on the Board of Directors for the Florida Sheriff\'s Youth Ranches. Sheriff Prummell was selected by the Florida Sheriff\'s Association as the Region 6 Task Force Chair, and in August 2015 was appointed by the Governor to serve as a commissioner on the Criminal Justice Standards and Training Commission. Sheriff Prummell introduced the Patrol Training Officers program to the Sheriff’s Office training new deputies on working with the community on problem solving and to enhance the quality of life within their patrol areas. He worked cooperatively with the BOCC and School Board to put SROs’ in each of our public schools. Sheriff Prummell has a focus on positive working relationships with our State and Local governments as well as local non-profit and community organizations to make Charlotte County a safe place to live, work and play.
