Candidate: David Michael Morris

My name is David Morris, and I am a proud resident of Charlotte County since 2003, briefly living in North Port after Hurricane Charley. I am proud to have graduated from Punta Gorda Middle School and Port Charlotte High School. I have served Charlotte County in various customer service oriented roles since 2009, starting as a volunteer at Fawcett Memorial Hospital, and now as a real estate professional. I have been passionate about Charlotte County and our school system since my family moved to Punta Gorda from Winter Haven, specifically because Charlotte County had better schools than Polk County. I wrote much of Wikipedia\'s article on Charlotte County Public Schools when I was in high school, I brought Port Charlotte High School\'s article to a Good Article rating from a Stub rating, and I started the article for Punta Gorda Middle School. I believe, while our schools do many things right, there is always room for improvement, and I firmly believe the people of our county\'s voices need to be better heard by our local officials. I believe that some of our local officials see adversities as excuses rather than barriers that need to be overcome, and that\'s something I hope to change. I am a firm believer in limited government and the Constitution. This race is personal to me. As alumni of our schools, as a person with friends who are parents (including a dear friend of mine whom I someday hope to marry), and as a person with friends who are teachers or other employees of the school system, I want to see our schools be #1 in the state of Florida. \"Setting standards for student success\" is our district\'s motto. I believe we should live up to that philosophy, and be the district that others look up to.
