Monique is a native of Detroit, MI who has resided in Jacksonville, Florida for 15 years with her husband, Cyrus III, of over 20 years and their 9 children; 8 who attend DCPS and 1 adult educator in Houston, TX. She is a product of the public-school system graduating from Southeastern High School in Detroit and later attending Western Michigan University attaining a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Communication. Monique is also a 25-year member of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc.
With over 9 years of service to the DCPS, Monique has felt compelled to serve on an even broader level by running for District 6 School Board. She is an advocate for children and is passionate about empowering students and parents to use their voices, become involved and further engage at a grass roots level all who touch the instructional process. Her focus is to make an impact through the synergistic efforts of students, parents, educators and the community at-large, and she is committed to be a servant leader who assists students in realizing their abundant potential. These unique qualities have afforded Monique a bevy of opportunities to serve DCPS in many capacities:

Chaired the Fort Caroline Boundary Committee which produced the Ft. Caroline Magnet Art School

Monique currently serves as Director of the Family Empowerment Ministry at the Potter’s House International Ministries, where she was as a Teen minister for10 years. Monique has 20 years of leadership and collaborative work experience on various committees, councils and boards within the school district and the at-large Jacksonville community. One such example is her newest role as Advisory Board Member of the University of North Florida Center for Urban Education and Policy. With a wealth of experience, Monique will use her body of work to focus on:

Curriculum/program innovation through sustainable community partnerships

Stronger policies to support children with IEP/504 plans/Gifted
