Paul Mixon, pastor at Central Baptist Church in Crestview, is a candidate for the Okaloosa County Commission, D-1 seat.
Mixon is a longtime resident of Okaloosa County and grew up in Shalimar, the son of a Presbyterian minister. He is a graduate of Choctaw High School, Northwest Florida State College, and Leavell College of New Orleans Baptist Theological Seminary, where he obtained an Associate of Applied Science in Criminal Justice degree, a Bachelor’s degree in Christian Ministry, and certification as a Florida law enforcement officer.
He began his law enforcement career in 1993 as a police cadet at the City of Fort Walton Beach, and went on to serve over ten years as a deputy sheriff working north and south ends of the county. During that time, he was awarded the Life-saving medal by the Sheriff, and graduated from a Homeland Security training program at the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC).
Mixon has been married to his wonderful wife, Kirsten, since June of 2001. They have seven children at home between the ages of 2 and 16, including one foster child. They make their home in Crestview, and have owned and operated several small businesses in Okaloosa County. His passion for community service is evidenced by his volunteer leadership in several local community ministries including Ropin the Truth Ministries, Out of this World Ministries, Goodwill Easter Seals, and doing construction repairs in the SHIP Program.
