Candidate's Statement

Volusia County Judge Angela A. Dempsey was elected to the bench in 2014. She received a bachelor's degree cum laude from Florida State University and her juris doctor with honors from the University of Arkansas at Little Rock, William H. Bowen School of Law. An attorney since 2004, she worked for the Florida Department of Children and Families and for the Florida Guardian ad Litem program, handling cases for the most vulnerable population, abused and neglected children. She then went into private practice, handling various types of cases before deciding to run for county judge.  Since taking the bench, Judge Dempsey has presided over both criminal and civil dockets.  She currently hears civil cases at the Volusia County Courthouse in DeLand. 
Judge Dempsey grew up in DeLand and is a graduate of DeLand High School.  She is married to local attorney, Don Dempsey, and is the mother of two beautiful young children, as well as step-mom to an older son.  She and her family live on a farm in DeLand where they have two German Shepherds, four horses and some cattle.  She is an active member of the First Assembly of God in DeLand.
