Candidate's Statement

"St Lucie County has been my family’s home since 1999. I love this community and the incredible potential.  Over the last 20 years I have watched this county grow into a wonderful place to raise a family and build our future.  I am ready to work very hard for you and take us to the next level."

Kurt Holden has been a resident of St. Lucie County for over 20 years.  He has raised 7 children in St. Lucie County School District since moving to the county in June of 1999.  He is engaged to be married on February 14th of this year to Deborah Lathrop, also a St. Lucie County resident with 3 children that have attended St. Lucie County Schools. 

Mr. Holden has been very involved in the community in several different aspects over his 20 years.  He has been very involved in youth sports as a coach and board member.  Kurt was appointed to the SLC Recreation Advisory Board for 6 years.  The board advised the County Commissioners on the allocations of over $75m in MSTU tax monies for active sports facilities throughout the county.  He and a group of residents founded the Treasure Coast Youth Football League in 2000 which grew to over 2200 children and 6 cities participating in the Orange Bowl Youth Football League where he sat as the president of the TCYFL and sat on the Board of Directors for the OBYFL for 4 years.  He founded the Fort Pierce FIRE minor league football team which played in the Sothern States Football League.  The FIRE operated as a secondary outlet for adult athletes and played their games at Lawnwood and South County Stadium.  The FIRE for all 6 years maintained the largest fan base within the league.  He also co-founded the Minor League National Football Championship where minor league teams from around the country would travel to St. Lucie County to play for the National Championship.  He worked directly with the Treasure Coast Sports Commission as well as the County’s Tourism and Development Council to host the largest minor league football event in the nation. 

Mr. Holden is a 35-year aviation professional.  He holds an airline transportation pilot’s license and has worked as an airline and corporate pilot in North America, South America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East.  He has been a Director of Operations / Chief Pilot for scheduled and unscheduled airline companies throughout the world.  Kurt brings an extensive background to St. Lucie County in operations and management.
