Candidate's Statement

Hi Citizens of Flagler County Thank you for taking the time to read a little more about me so let me tell you about myself. I believe in this community however, I feel it is time for a change in values and leadership. Our current commission has found itself in a difficult position, with all of them demonstrating ethical lapses in judgment and it has become obvious that their actions speak louder than their words. And I believe in accountability and this commission appears to be afraid of holding the County Administrator, County Attorney, and some county committees, like the Economic Development and Tourist Development Council accountable for their actions. I am loyal to the taxpayers and citizens of Flagler County and I am a registered Republican who will be a full time commissioner. I will hold regular office hours and will be available to speak to the public whenever they reach out. I will be easily accessible and willing to listen to the citizens- all citizens and not just a select few. I will be visible at community events and I will fully participate in county wide committees and I will travel to Volusia County to attend committees that say they serve Flagler County residents. I believe in public service and I consider myself a servant leader who believes in setting an example and being a role model. As a County Commissioner, I will demonstrate the philosophy of: • Open and transparent management with an emphasis on collaboration, not adversity • Fiscal responsibility and conservatism • Being socially responsible and environmentally friendly • Preserving and protecting individual rights • Supporting Eco-and Agri-Tourism and keeping our Historic and Scenic By-Ways funded •.Creating real jobs that exist and supporting local businesses first and then recruiting outside firms with minimal incentives • Support the Arts by assisting in the creation of an independent Arts Council • Support Emergency Management and working toward a collaborative solution for effective radio communications • Making government responsive to the needs of the majority of the people •Being an advocate for Flagler County and ensuring that the county has its fair share of resources from the federal, state, regional governments and from Volusia County- where we share several joint programs but don’t get our share of the money or resources. I care about our future and I care about our Seniors and the disabled, all 54,335 of them. I will do what it takes to get a senior center and more support for Alzheimer’s patients and I will work to get transportation services that take people to where they need to go, when they need to go and not at the convenience of the system. I will work to help the homeless in our community by working on the development of a permanent facility that is open all year and not just during the cold weather and I will work diligently to get better paying jobs here and to recruit and retain clean industries that pay more than minimum wage and I will work hard to support our existing small businesses to help them grow and prosper. . Denise Calderwood is what this County really needs…someone who cares about our future! And someone who understands the past. Personal Information: Married to Richard Calderwood, 26 years and have two grown stepchildren and one grandchild Master’s degree in Public Administration President of the Flagler Palm Coast Kiwanis Club, the longest serving service club in Palm Coast Small business owner, Calderwood Consulting, Inc.
